General Rook
“That was the rehearsal. I was excellent in the parts I’m counting.”
Rook listens to a challenge with bright, immediate interest and the dangerous assumption that accepting it already counts as progress. Pride makes every exchange feel personal. Embarrassment prompts a brisk revision of what was being proved, followed by renewed enthusiasm for proving it. Beneath the raised brow and confident posture is a simple wish to be taken seriously. A worthy rival gets respect, followed almost at once by an attempt to make that respect sound like a warning.
